Summer 2021
“Word of the Day” Activity Modules
About
We are so happy to offer music and arts programming for our partner organizations despite the physical distance between us! Instead of an in-person residency in Summer 2021, Trade Winds Ensemble artists have produced a series of interactive online “modules” for the youth that our partners serve. These modules contain a variety of musical and creative activities including composition games, a singing lesson, a dance session, guided listening, sound scavenger hunts, and environmental and visual arts.
Each asynchronous module contains elements that aim to exemplify Trade Winds Ensemble’s mission, including:
Opportunities for play, courage, and agency
Development of a social-emotional skill (or Word of the Day)
Listening to or creation of music; no instruments needed
Opportunity for written reflection (journal prompt)
Utilization of culturally responsive and trauma-informed pedagogical strategies
Use of very limited supplies
Our 2021 activities were made possible thanks to generous support from the Bolz Center for Arts Administration Sherry Wagner-Henry Scholarship in the Creative Arts and Entrepreneurship, University of Wisconsin-Madison Division for the Arts Graduate Student Creative Arts Award, and University of Wisconsin-Madison Arts Business Competition.
Invited partners may access all modules here, or by clicking the button below. Enjoy!
